Additionally, the region is home to some of Minnesota’s best shopping destinations. The most popular cities to shop in Minneapolis South are Eagan, Burnsville and Lakeville. From browsing through bargain stores at an outlet mall to lounging in a cafe between shopping breaks in a historic downtown, here is your guide to the best shopping in the Minneapolis South region.
Twin Cities Premium Outlets
Eagan is home to Twin Cities Premium Outlets, the largest outlet mall in the Upper Midwest featuring more than 100 brand name stores, which range from high-end places like Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5th, Coach, Cole Haan and Michael Kors to bargain shops like the Nike Factory Store and Under Armour. The outlet mall features endless meal and snack options such as Auntie Anne’s, Villa Italian Kitchen and Starbucks Coffee. Most of the stores are accessible outside, so shoppers can enjoy the fresh air and admire the outdoor fireplace. The outlet mall is known for hosting various events such as Mission Pink every October to raise breast cancer awareness, Trick or Treating in the fall where shops hand out candy to costumed children, and Deer Widows Weekend, where shoppers can win prizes by dressing up in camo or deer antlers. The outlet shopping center also regularly organizes holiday sales events with discounts beyond the regular savings of 25 to 65 percent. Shoppers who plan to stay overnight nearby can wind down at one of Eagan’s 16 hotels.
Head over to the Burnsville Center, which features close to 140 different shops. Large department stores include Macy’s (with its own Marketplace Deli), Dick’s Sporting Goods and Sears. Shoppers can enjoy the modern architecture with hints of art deco touches throughout the mall. While shoppers can browse through familiar stores like Aeropostale, Charlotte Russe and Journeys, they can experience countless unique stores like Air Traffic Kites & Games, Alamo Flag and Name of the Game (a shop that sells all things Minnesota Gophers). Shoppers will find many eateries and snack vendors throughout the mall to take mini breaks. Among the restaurants and cafes are Lucky’s 13 Pub, Caribou Coffee, and, nearby, Shogun Sushi and Hibachi. Regular events at Burnsville Center include Gingerbread Shows, which are arts and crafts shows where shoppers can meet various talented local artists who display some of their best works and offer them for sale. After a day of successful shopping, head over to Paragon Odyssey 15 IMAX Theater in the exterior section of the mall to catch the latest flick.
Historic Downtown Lakeville
Knock things off your shopping list while enjoying well-preserved architecture and the small-town atmosphere of Historic Downtown Lakeville. Shoppers will find a wide variety of one-of-a-kind boutique shops, country stores and consignment retailers. The historic downtown continues to welcome new small businesses like Kaleidoscope to bring new products to shoppers. Lakeville’s many cafes and restaurants like Mainstreet Coffee Cafe, Heavy Metal Grill and Babe’s Music Bar make it ideal for shoppers to take breaks between stores. Shoppers could also stroll through The Lakeville Area Arts Center for a touch of local culture. The vibrant area hosts various seasonal events like a Holiday Lighting Ceremony is a local tradition where locals turn on thousands of lights at Pioneer Plaza. Refreshment and live music are offered at the event. Another fun Christmas event is the Holiday on Main where families can meet Santa Claus and his reindeer and go on trolley rides.
